• Colonoscopy patients: Please only drink clear liquids and stay away from any drinks with red or purple dyes the day before your procedure. Follow your bowel preparation as directed by your doctor.
  • Do not eat or drink anything after midnight or the morning of your procedure.
  • Bring a list of your current medications and dosages with you, including any allergies.
  • Make arrangements for a responsible adult to drive you home. For your safety and the safety of others, you will not be allowed to drive a motor vehicle or go home alone after you have been sedated. Taxis and buses are NOT acceptable, unless you are accompanied by a responsible adult. Please arrange for a responsible adult to stay with you for the first 24 hours following your procedure. Arrange for care of your children for 24 hours following your procedure, as you may feel drowsy for that period of time.
  • If you experience any health changes between your most recent visit to your GI doctor and the day of your procedure, please notify your GI doctor or NOCSC. Please report even minor changes, such as elevated temperature, cough, or congestion.
  • Do not take any medications the day of your procedure except for heart, blood pressure, asthma and/or seizure medication. Please bring your asthma inhaler with you. If you are a diabetic, please check with your doctor for instructions on your diabetic medications.
  • If you take blood thinners such as coumadin, plavix, fragmin, lovenox or any other blood thinners, please notify your doctor’s office. Your doctor will instruct you on when to discontinue the medications.
  • Discontinue the following medications (5) five days prior to your procedure:
    • Advil
    • Aleve
    • Alka-seltzer
    • Anacin
    • Aspirin
    • Bufferin
    • Excedrin
    • Ecotrin
    • Iron
    • Nuprin
    • Percodan
    • Robaxisal
    • Vitamin E
    • *Tylenol may be taken as needed for pain during this (5) five day period
  • If you have an advance health care directive, bring it with you on the day of your procedure. This will be placed in your chart.
  • If you suspect you are pregnant, are pregnant, or are breast feeding, please notify your doctor and anesthesiologist.
